Hi! I’m Lisa,
A Duke Writing Professor & Disney Adult
I've been teaching Decoding Disney at Duke University since the Spring of 2013, but I've been a Disney fan for as long as I can remember. My goal with this course has always been to show that you can critique the things you love, and also love the things you know aren't perfect. In our current age of digital media saturation, it's critical to understand the messages and biases in the texts -- movies, TV shows, even the Disney parks -- that are follow us from childhood to adulthood. I also firmly believe that just because things are "for children" doesn't mean they don't teach us about the world we live in and the way we move through it.
